Transparency Should Not Be a Luxury; It Is a Matter of Life and Death: What Purchasers and Consumers Can Do" ... Statement on Leapfrog’s Release of Central-line Infection Data Today
Leah Binder, CEO, The Leapfrog Group
Washington, DC--- For the first time, in 2009 The Leapfrog Group asked hospitals across the country on behalf of Leapfrog’s purchaser members to publicly report their rates of one of the most common and deadly forms of hospital-acquired infections: central-line associated blood stream infections, or CLABSIs.
Leapfrog is partnering with Consumer Reports Health to release hospital infection rates for 926 hospitals at www.consumerreportshealth.org. The online infection rates reveal tremendous variations within the same cities and even the same health care systems.

Health Care Reform:
The Perils of Inaction and the
Promise of Effective Action; A Report to
Business Roundtable
by Hewitt Associates LLC "The debate over comprehensive health care reform is at a critical juncture. Fact and fiction are becoming
increasingly blurred as the debate moves into the public arena. As the sponsors and purchasers of the bulk of group health plans in America,
employers will play an important role in the eventual
solution. The status quo is not an option for American business, and meaningful reform must address the delivery system inefficiencies that
are driving up health care costs. Expanding health insurance coverage is critically important, but simply adding more people to an ailing system and spending more money will only make the existing cost problems worse.
This report makes a case for the potential benefits of health care reform if it is done wisely." ....Read the document
