National Business Coalition on Health
(Parent organization to VBCH)
The National Business Coalition on Health (NBCH) is the parent organization for the VBCH. NBCH is a national, non-profit, membership organization of purchaser-led health care coalitions. NBCH and its members are dedicated to value-based purchasing of health care services through the collective action of public and private purchasers. NBCHseeks to accelerate the nation’s progress towards safe, efficient, high-quality health care and the improved health status of the American population.
Since 1992, NBCH’s member coalitions and multi-stakeholder affiliates have been actively engaged in developing programs that foster the four pillars of value-based purchasing:
- Standardizing performance measurement
- Reporting performance measurement results publicly
- Reforming the health care delivery payment system
- Engaging consumers in informed decision making
The VBCH is a member of The Leapfrog Group (Leapfrog) and is the Virginia-wide lead for the Leapfrog Hospital Survey which privileges VBCH as a data partner from which we can develop patient safety report cards. Leapfrog members have access to tools, resources and information designed to change the way health care is purchased and delivered, resulting in potential savings for your organization in terms of dollars and lives. Membership, however, is not just about gaining access to data and tools. It’s also about giving added strength to the Leapfrog movement to reduce preventable medical mistakes and other variations in health care quality which continue to threaten Virginia’s and our country’s families.
Leapfrog is the innovator in patient quality and safety, creating vehicles to collect the data on quality and safety practices, developing safe practices standards, and designing the first ever pay-for-performance incentive and rewards program.
VBCH is a member of the National Quality Forum (NQF). Improving healthcare is a matter of critical importance that requires action by a wide variety of healthcare stakeholders, such as VBCH. The National Quality Forum brings together healthcare leaders from every sector of the industry as part of a national dialogue that works in partnership to build consensus on national priorities and goals for performance improvement; endorse national consensus standards for measuring and publicly reporting on performance; and promote the attainment of national goals through education and outreach programs.
Implementing National Priorities
NQF is the convener of the National Priorities Partnership, a group of 48 organizations involved in setting National Priorities and Goals. NQF members play an integral role in implementing these National Priorities and leading the way for others to do the same.
Setting National Standards for Healthcare Quality
VBCH has the right to comment and vote on candidate consensus standards for healthcare. NQF-endorsed® standards guide national policy and impact all healthcare organizations. We also have the opportunity to nominate experts of our choice for selection to critical taskforces and committees.
Making Connections with Leaders in Healthcare Quality
At the annual conference members interact with policymakers and visionaries in healthcare quality. Through NQF’s unique Member Council structure, members interact with leading researchers and cutting-edge practitioners.
VBCH has access to additional communications from NQF and utilizes access to content restricted to NQF members only on the NQF website.
VBCH is a member of The Partnership for Patients, which brings together leaders of employers, major hospitals, physicians, nurses, and patient advocates along with state and federal governments in a shared effort to make hospital care safer, more reliable, and less costly. The two goals of this new partnership are to 1) keeping patients from getting injured or sicker, and 2) Help patients heal without complication. Achieving these goals will save lives and prevent injuries to millions of Virginians/Americans, and has the potential to save up to $35 billion dollars across the health care system over the next three years; this will help put our nation on the path toward a more sustainable health care system.
VBCH is a member of the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). Improving healthcare is a matter of critical importance that requires action by a wide variety of healthcare stakeholders.
